About Ananda Foundations
Ananda Foundation was registered in the year 1991 as a charitable trust. This ushered in a new phase of serving people for the Ananda family who hailed from The Nilgiris.
The inspiration for the establishment of the Foundation was the life and work of Late Shri N. Ananda, a decorated officer who served the Royal Navy and then the Indian Navy. All through his service he always extended his hand to people in need – financially supporting the education of the underprivileged besides providing for the medical needs of the fatherless.
While his family continued his work even after him, in the year 1991 his daughter Navaratni Nagarajan streamlined all efforts of social upliftment under a charitable organization called Ananda Foundations, in honor of her late father’s life of sacrificial giving.
Since its inception, the Ananda Foundation began sponsoring a primary school for social upliftment – the Sanddune School. The school primarily served the educational needs of the fishing hamlets in and around Neelankarai on East Coast Road, Chennai. As the school grew, Sanddune extended its reach to the community at large besides meeting the needs of the underprivileged.
By the year 2013, with the emergence of several schools in the area, and with education becoming more accessible and affordable to the target groups that the Foundation served, Ananda Foundation began focusing on several other areas of service.
With Mrs. Navaratni’s expertise in education, the Ananda Foundation now serves the student community by upskilling students for better employability and successful entrepreneurship.
